Micrograms (mcg) measure the dose; units measure the volume you draw on a U-100 insulin syringe, where 100 units equal 1 mL. They are not the same — the conversion depends on your concentration.
The formula is: units = (dose in mg ÷ concentration in mg/mL) × 100. At a concentration of 1 mg/mL the conversion is simple:
